Severe circumstances due to full-scale military invasion in Ukraine, forces millions of Ukrainians to flee from the borders in order to find a safe shelter. European countries along with the humanitarian organizations provide shelter and humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees. World Vision is actively involved in the response to the Ukraine crisis in Romania, Moldova, Poland, Ukraine and Georgia.
In compliance with the recent data, more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees were sheltered by Poland, and more than 160,000 by Moldova and Romania combined.
It is crucial for us to ensure that the children and their parents are protected during the conflict. 7.5 million children live in Ukraine. Most of their families are attempting to cross borders and find a safer environment. In this process, families are often separated, which further increases the risk of violence, neglect or exploitation.
The situation is deteriorating, which in turn increases the need for humanitarian assistance. The amount of food is beyond the critical threshold, it’s also essential to provide medical as well as hygienic assistance, safe and secure shelter, which is carried out at the border with the help of the World Vision Romanian team at this point in time.
It should be pointed out that Georgia, as well as the rest of the civilized world, is involved in the response to the Ukraine crisis. World Vision Georgia has urgently obtained information regarding the Ukrainian visitors stuck in Georgia in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia right after the kickoff of the war.
In accordance with the unofficial information, up to 4,500 Ukrainians are in Georgia, who entered the country for tourism purposes a few weeks before the war. Although Georgia does not border Ukraine, it is anticipated that more Ukrainians will arrive in the country in search of asylum, so World Vision Georgia is working closely with the Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia, as well as the National Tourism Administration, to provide timely assistance to Ukrainian refugees. An effective mechanism will be developed to facilitate refugees' access to the assistance system, which in turn includes psychosocial support, medication supply, food and shelter.
World Vision is carrying out a global donation which is supported by up to 20 offices. According to the latest data, $ 34 million is raised to help Ukraine.
