The social story "Niko and the Virus"
25 May

The social story "Niko and the virus" was created within the framework of the World Vision Georgia Early Childhood Development Program for children under the age of 8. It consists of two parts: a brochure and a coloring book.

The brochure contains the practical tips for parents how to communicate with children to achieve the best results:

  • As you read the story, allow your child to make predictions, such as: "What do you think the virus told him?" Or "Why do you think the virus does not like washed hands?"
  • Make sure the child understands all the words. Explain the new words.
  • After explaining a new word, try to create a story about new word together with your child.
  • Encourage the child, family members and yourself to create your own story, a fairy tale.
  • Encourage the child to color the coloring book. Get yourself involved too.
  • Use the story to start the dialogue and discuss it with the child.
  • At the end of the coloring book is a visual hand washing poster developed by the World Health Organization that you can cut and stick in a prominent place in the house.

The printed version of the publication was distributed to more than 5,000 children living in the target regions with support of World Vision Georgia’s local organizations:

  • Tbilisi Urban Development Program
  • Kakheti Regional Development Center
  • Imereti Development Center
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti Development Center
